Tokyo stocks opened marginally lower Friday as investor sentiment was dented by Wall Street's retreat overnight.
As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average shed 14.65 points, or 0.07 percent, from Thursday to 20,095.86.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, edged down 2.07 points, or 0.13 percent, at 1,608.31.
Food, air transportation, and fishery, agriculture and forestry-related issues comprised those declined the most in early trade.
