Tokyo stocks opened higher on Thursday as the market mood was buoyed by Wall Street's solid lead overnight and the yen's depreciation against the U.S. dollar.
As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 126.55 points, or 0.65 percent, from Wednesday to 19,633.09.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 9.44 points, or 0.59 percent, to 1,617.09.
Bank, electric appliance and transportation equipment-linked issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes of trade.
