Tokyo stocks opened lower Monday.
As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 110.78 points, or 0.56 percent, from Friday to 19,580.69.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, fell 7.89 points, or 0.49 percent, to 1,611.70.
Nonferrous metal, marine transportation, and pharmaceutical-linked issues comprised those that declined the most during the opening minutes of trade.
