Tokyo stocks open flat as exporters sold on yen's appreciation

Tokyo stocks opened almost flat Thursday with the yen's appreciation against the U.S. dollar seeing export-linked issues sold.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average inched up 7.61 points, or 0.03 percent, from Wednesday to 22,765.68.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, shed 1.17 points, or 0.06 percent, at 1,809.67.

Transportation equipment and bank issues led those that declined. Pharmaceutical and chemical issues comprised notable gainers.
