Tokyo stocks opened lower Tuesday, mirroring losses on Wall Street overnight on reports of a phased introduction of President Donald Trump's proposed tax cut.
As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 146.71 points, or 0.67 percent, from Monday to 21,864.96.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, fell 10.28 points, or 0.58 percent, to 1,760.56.
Rubber product, iron and steel, and securities-linked issues comprised those that declined the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
