Tokyo stocks opened lower Tuesday following a weak lead from Wall Street overnight, with news that Apple Inc. will slash production targets for its iPhone X denting tech shares in particular.
As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 73.33 points, or 0.31 percent, from Monday to 23,556.01.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 2.91 points, or 0.15 percent, at 1,877.54.
Mining, electric appliance and securities-oriented issues led those that declined the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
