Tokyo stocks opened higher Tuesday as a comparatively weak yen versus the U.S. dollar gave exporter issues a boost and tech shares advanced owing to gains made by their counterparts on Wall Street overnight.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 115.93 points, or 0.52 percent, from Monday to 22,489.02.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, rose 2.14 points, or 0.13 percent, at 1,689.75.

Pharmaceutical, services and land transportation-oriented issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes after the opening bell.
