Tokyo stocks opened higher Wednesday as investors bought back issues oversold a day earlier when the Nikkei index closed sharply lower.
As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 72.98 points, or 0.33 percent, from Tuesday to 22,083.76.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 4.10 points, or 0.25 percent, at 1,654.82.
Retail, electric power and gas, and securities house-linked issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
