Tokyo stocks opened higher on Thursday with the Nikkei index rising 4 percent to reach the 20,000 line following Dow Jones' sharp rebound.
As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 737.18 points, or 3.81 percent, from Wednesday to 20,064.24.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, rose 56.59 points, or 3.95 percent, at 1,488.06.
Oil and coal product, mining, and precision instrument issues comprised those that increased the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
