Tokyo stocks opened sharply higher Monday.
As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 354.05 points, or 1.69 percent, from Friday to 21,254.68.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 24.34 points, or 1.54 percent, at 1,601.63.
Rubber product, oil and coal product, and securities-linked issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
