Tokyo stocks opened marginally lower Tuesday as investors opted to secure profits after the Nikkei's sharp rise a day earlier.
As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 52.23 points, or 0.25 percent, from Monday to 21,229.62.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 1.80 points, or 0.11 percent, at 1,600.16.
Machinery, rubber product, and iron and steel-linked issues comprised those that declined the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
