Tokyo stocks fall in morning amid concerns over outlook for global economy

TOKYO, May 29 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks dropped sharply Wednesday morning as investor sentiment was dented by U.S. shares falling overnight amid continued concerns over the outlook for the global economy.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 239.42 points, or 1.13 percent, from Tuesday to end the morning at 21,020.72. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, finished 13.47 points, or 0.87 percent, lower at 1,537.52.

Precision instrument, electric power and gas, and pulp and paper-oriented issues comprised those that declined the most by the morning break.
