TOKYO, May 30 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened lower Thursday as the market mood was dented by U.S. shades sliding overnight on concerns over the future course of the global economy.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 83.85 points, or 0.40 percent, from Wednesday to 20,919.52. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, fell 6.67 points, or 0.43 percent, at 1,529.74.

Pulp and paper, pharmaceutical, and farm and fishery-linked issues comprised those that declined the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
