TOKYO, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks extended gains Tuesday morning as a comparatively weak yen versus the U.S. dollar gave issues like exporters with a wide expose to overseas markets a boost.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average climbed 221.22 points, or 1.03 percent, from Monday to 21,596.47.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 12.89 points, or 0.82 percent, at 1,585.64.

Metal product, precision instrument and machinery-linked issues comprised those that gained the most by the morning break.
