Tokyo stocks open lower as concerns over global economic outlook resurface

TOKYO, Oct. 9 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened sharply lower on Wednesday as concerns over upcoming trade talks resurfaced and clouded the outlook of the global economy.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 206.36 points, or 0.96 percent, from Tuesday to 21,381.42.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 12.68 points, or 0.80 percent, at 1,573.82.

Mining, precision instrument and marine transportation-linked issues comprised those that declined the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
