Tokyo stocks extend gains in morning after Fed's rate cut

TOKYO, Sept. 19 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks advanced Thursday morning after the U.S. Federal Reserve announced it would cut its interest rate for a second time this year in order to underpin the U.S. economy.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 222.82 points, or 1.01 percent, from Wednesday to 22,183.53.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 16.88 points, or 1.05 percent, at 1,623.50.

Every industry category on the first section advanced into positive territory, with electric power and gas, equities house, and textile and apparel-linked issues comprising those that gained the most by the morning break.
