Tokyo stocks end higher on hopes for solid earnings

TOKYO, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks closed higher Wednesday, as buying took the upper hand on expectations for solid corporate earnings despite concerns about Brexit weighing on sentiment.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 76.48 points, or 0.34 percent, from Monday to close the day at 22,625.38.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 9.54 points, or 0.59 percent, to finish at 1,638.14.

Marine transportation, pharmaceutical and nonferrous metal-linked issues comprised those that gained the most by the close of play.

Markets here were closed on Tuesday for a national holiday.
