Tokyo stocks open higher on hopes for trade talks, earnings

TOKYO, Oct. 28 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened higher Monday as the market mood was buoyed by hopes of progress being made in trade talks as well as further solid domestic corporate earnings reports this week.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 81.23 points, or 0.36 percent, from Friday to 22,881.04.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 2.82 points, or 0.17 percent, at 1,651.26.

Marine transportation, rubber product and nonferrous metal-linked issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
