Tokyo stocks open moderately lower ahead of BOJ meeting outcome

TOKYO, Jan. 21 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened moderately lower Tuesday as some investors hit the sidelines to await the outcome of the Bank of Japan's (BOJ) two-day policy setting meeting later in the day.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average shed 28.84 points, or 0.12 percent, from Monday to 24,054.67.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, edged down 0.98 point, or 0.06 percent, at 1,743.18.

Mining, iron and steel, and air transportation-linked issues comprised those that declined the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
