TOKYO, July 7 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened essentially flat Tuesday as Wall Street's solid performance overnight was offset by the yen's strength and concerns the market may be overheating following its recent winning streak.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average edged up 9.72 points, or 0.04 percent, from Monday to 22,724.16.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 0.64 point, or 0.04 percent, at 1,577.79.

Precision instrument and service issues led notable gainers, while pharmaceutical and transportation equipment issues comprised those that declined the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
