Tokyo stocks open higher after Fed commits to keeping low rates

TOKYO, July 30 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened higher Thursday tracking U.S. stocks solid performance overnight after the U.S. Federal Reserve recommitted to maintaining low interest rates in bid to counter the negative economic effects of the coronavirus pandemic.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 78.87 points, or 0.35 percent, from Wednesday to 22,475.98.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 3.86 points, or 0.25 percent, at 1,552.90.

Marine transportation, securities house and transportation equipment issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
