TOKYO, July 29 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened lower Wednesday tracking losses on Wall Street overnight as a slew of disappointing earnings from both U.S. and Japanese firms weighed on the market mood.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 168.41 points, or 0.74 percent, from Tuesday to 22,488.97.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 16.84 points, or 1.07 percent, at 1,552.28.

Air transportation, iron and steel, and electric appliance issues comprised those that declined the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
