Tokyo stocks open higher on Wall Street's overnight rally

TOKYO, Sept. 2 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened higher Wednesday after a solid showing on Wall Street overnight with investor sentiment also bolstered by upbeat U.S. manufacturing data for August.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 125.65 points, or 0.54 percent, from Tuesday to 23,263.72.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 3.92 points, or 0.24 percent, at 1,619.73.

Information and communication, electric appliance, and glass and ceramic product issues comprised those that advanced the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
