Tokyo stocks close higher on Wall Street's overnight rally

TOKYO, Sept. 2 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks closed higher Wednesday following record closing highs on Wall Street overnight, with solid U.S. manufacturing data for August adding to an upbeat market mood and bolstering hopes for a global economic recovery from the pandemic.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 109.08 points, or 0.47 percent, from Tuesday to close the day at 23,247.15.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 7.59 points, or 0.47 percent, to finish at 1,623.40.

Electric appliance, marine transportation and consumer credit-oriented issues comprised those that gained the most by the close of play.
