TOKYO, March 11 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks advanced Thursday morning as the market mood was brightened by the U.S. Congress passing a 1.9-trillion-U.S.-dollar relief package to help reboot the pandemic-hit economy, with hopes also raised for the broader recovery of the global economy.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 143.28 points, or 0.49 percent, from Wednesday to 29,179.84.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, rose 4.57 points, or 0.24 percent, at 1,924.31.
