Chinese, Canadian leaders exchange congratulations on anniversary of ties

Chinese President Xi Jinping and Canadian Governor-General David Johnston on Tuesday exchanged congratulations on the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between their countries.

In a message, Xi said that Canada was among the first Western countries to establish diplomatic relations with the People's Republic. In the past 45 years, relations between the two countries have made strides with fruitful cooperation in various fields and deepened friendship between the two peoples, Xi said.

China attaches great importance to the relations with Canada and is willing to work with the country to promote bilateral strategic partnership so as to benefit both countries and peoples, said Xi.

Johnston said in his message that through the years Canada-China strategic partnership has developed greatly with frequent contacts between senior leaders of the two countries and strengthened cooperation in various fields. Canada is willing to work with China to further deepen their relations, he said.
