China mulls to push forward six major PV projects during the 2016-2020 period so as to advance PV development such as high-ratio PV utilization in key economic belts and ecological protection zones, PV power generation comprehensive utilization bases, PV poverty alleviation, renewable energy demonstration districts, large scale power generation bases and the PV Top Runner Program, according to a report by Economics Information Daily on Wednesday.

The 2016-2020 period would be the key for China's economics transformation and energy transformation which would provide vast opportunities for domestic PV industry, said Dong Xiufen, director of the new energy office with the National Energy Administration (NEA) during the Photovoltaic Conference and Exhibition of China 2015 (PVCEC 2015).

Dong stressed that future work will focus on distributing PV in central and east China as well as PV stations in west China, to increase PV capacity by 20 GW annually from 2016 to 2020. Lower cost, technological innovation and better PV services are also expected, Dong added.
