China's Ministry of Environmental Protection is quickening the pace to compile an environmental protection plan for the period from 2016 to 2020 which is expected to be submitted to the State Council, China's cabinet, for review and approval in March, 2016.
The upcoming plan will turn the single objective, namely, aggregate quantity control, into two objectives including improvement in environmental quality and aggregate amount control of pollutants, with the contents involving green economy, nuclear security issue, soil environmental protection, ecological environmental protection, and water environmental pollution prevention, according to the Xinhua-run Economic Information Daily on Thursday.
The Chinese Academy for Environmental Planning estimated that investments in the environmental protection industry are projected to increase to about 2 trillion yuan each year during the period of 2016-2020 and the total investments are expected to exceed 17 trillion yuan during the five years.
The environmental protection industry is expected to see an annual growth of more than 20 percent during the period of 2016-2020, said Li Junyang, secretary general of the International Energy Conservation Environmental Protection Association (IEEPA).
On China's A-share market, listed companies such as the Beijing Originwater Technology (300070.SZ), the Beijing SPC Environmental Protection Tech (002573.SZ) and the Xiamen Savings Environmental Co. (300056.SZ) see their main business related to the environmental protection.
