Japan's industrial production in June fell 2.1 percent from a month earlier, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry said Tuesday.

The seasonally adjusted index of output at factories and mines stood at 102.2 against the base of 100 for 2010, the ministry said in a preliminary report.
The fall in the recording period comes on the heels of a 0.2 percent decline in May, the ministry also said.

The ministry kept its basic assessment that industrial production is picking up slowly.

The index of industrial shipments, meanwhile, fell by 0.2 percent to 101.3 and that of inventories was down by 1.8 percent to 111.5, the ministry's data showed for the recording period.
