Tokyo stocks close higher on Wall Street's rally after Biden comeback

Tokyo stocks closed higher Thursday tracking a sharp overnight rebound on Wall Street after former U.S. Vice President Joe Biden's stunning comeback in the Democratic Party's Super Tuesday, booking his place as one of the top seeds for the party's nomination.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 229.06 points, or 1.09 percent, from Wednesday to close the day at 21,329.12.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 13.21 points, or 0.88 percent, to finish at 1,515.71.

Electric power and gas, pharmaceutical and miscellaneous product-linked issues comprised those that gained the most by the close of play.
