Tokyo stocks open lower on profit taking after rally

TOKYO, Dec. 16 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened slightly lower Monday as investors opted to take profits following the Nikkei surging 2.55 percent last Friday after tracking record gains on Wall Street on eased concerns about the outlook for the global economy.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 45.09 points, or 0.19 percent, from Friday to 23,978.01.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, shed 0.26 point, or 0.01 percent, at 1,739.72.

Mining, rubber product and precision instrument-linked issues comprised those that declined the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
