Vietnam's animal feed import up slightly in 9 months

HANOI, Oct. 9 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam spent over 2.9 billion U.S. dollars importing animal feeds and materials for animal feed production in the first nine months of this year, up 3.3 percent against the same period last year, according to the General Statistics Office on Friday.

Its largest suppliers included Argentina, Brazil, China and the United States.

Between January and September, Vietnam imported more than 2.2 million tons of wheat worth 580 million U.S. dollars, seeing respective year-on-year surges of 17.1 percent and 12.2 percent, and spent roughly 1.7 billion U.S. dollars importing over 8.4 million tons of corn, up 4.3 percent and 5 percent respectively, said the office.

Last year, Vietnam spent more than 3.7 billion U.S. dollars importing animal feeds and materials for animal feed production, down 4.3 percent on-year, according to the office.
