TOKYO, Nov. 12 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened higher Thursday as hopes for the development of a COVID-19 vaccine continued to support the market mood, while tech shares followed their U.S. peers higher overnight.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 166.53 points, or 0.66 percent, from Wednesday to 25,516.13, marking its highest intraday level since June 5, 1991.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, edged up 0.51 point, or 0.03 percent, at 1,729.58.

Information and communication, electric appliance and precision instrument issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
