TOKYO, Dec. 10 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks lost ground Thursday morning as investors opted to secure gains made following the Nikkei closing at a 29-year high a day earlier, with U.S. shares' overnight retreat weighing on sentiment.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 88.97 points, or 0.33 percent, from Wednesday to 26,728.97.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 2.21 points, or 0.12 percent, at 1,777.21.

Precision instrument, metal product and service-oriented issues comprised those that declined the most by the morning break.
