Tokyo stocks open higher

TOKYO, Dec. 16 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened higher Wednesday as investors welcomed signs of progress in negotiations over an economic relief package as well as ongoing COVID-19 vaccinations in the hard-hit country.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 133.75 points, or 0.50 percent, from Tuesday to 26,821.59.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 10.10 points, or 0.57 percent, at 1,792.15.

Marine transportation, real estate and securities brokerage-linked issues comprised those that advanced the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
