TOKYO, Jan. 25 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened flat Monday as investors sold following the Dow Jones Industrial Average's drop late last week and bought on hopes for corporate earnings reports this week from Japanese firms.

As of 9:15 a.m. local time, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average shed 10.01 points, or 0.03 percent, from Friday to 28,621.44.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, edged up 1.29 points, or 0.07 percent, at 1,857.93.

Iron and steel, and bank issues led notable decliners, while oil and coal product, and pharmaceutical issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
