Tokyo stocks drop in morning on concerns over COVID-19 resurgence

TOKYO, April 8 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks lost ground on Thursday morning as concerns mount that a resurgence of domestic COVID-19 cases could hurt corporate earnings and the outlook for the broader economic recovery.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 110.68 points, or 0.37 percent, from Wednesday to 29,620.11.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, fell 15.81 points, or 0.80 percent, at 1,951.62.

Air transportation, textile and apparel, and bank issues comprised those that lost the most by the morning break.
