TOKYO, April 7 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks were essentially flat Wednesday following an initial round of bargain hunting after the market's fall a day earlier.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average shed 10.86 points, or 0.04 percent, from Tuesday to 29,685.77.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 5.49 points, or 0.28 percent, at 1,959.83.

Securities house and pharmaceutical issues led notable decliners, while those that gained the most included metal product, and iron and steel issues.
