The number of imported vehicles sold here was 21,329 in October, down 15.9 percent from a year earlier, according to the Korea Automobile Importers & Distributors Association (KAIDA).
The double-digit reduction was attributed to the economic slump that led to the weakened private consumption.
German carmaker Mercedes-Benz ranked first in terms of automotive sales here among foreign companies by selling 6,612 units last month.
Another German automaker BMW came next with the local sale of 5,985 units, followed by Volvo with 1,263 units, Audi with 1,151 units, Lexus with 963 units and Volkswagen with 853 units.
The number of European models sold here was 18,212 last month, accounting for 85.4 percent of the total. Japanese and U.S. brands recorded a market share of 9.0 percent and 5.6 percent each.
For the first 10 months of this year, the imported vehicle sale totaled 219,071 units, down 2.9 percent compared to the same period of last year.
