NEW DELHI, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) -- India's share market Thursday hit new highs for the first time, officials said.

The indices opened at record high with the benchmark Nifty 50 crossing above 25,000 level and the Sensex breaching 82,000 for the first time.

The BSE Sensex opened 208 points, or 0.25 percent, higher at 81,949.68 and extended gains to hit a record high of 82,129.49. Nifty 50 opened at 80 points, or 0.32 percent, higher at 25,030.95 level and hit an all-time high of 25,078.30.

Experts say the market rally was fueled by optimistic global signals following remarks from the U.S. Federal Reserve.

"The Fed chief signaling a possible rate cut in September is positive for global equity markets. More importantly, his comments that the U.S. economy is normalizing are a shot in the arm for bulls," V. K. Vijayakumar, chief investment strategist at Geojit Financial Services was quoted in local media as having said.
