China will focus on service robot and intelligent robot in the coming five years, according to Xin Guobin, vice minister of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) at a recent meeting.
MIIT convened a meeting to review a draft plan for robot industry development in the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-2020) on Wednesday. Xin asked the Department of Equipment Industry to improve the draft as soon as possible and understand the potential of service robot. It is reported that in the robot field, there are two sections including industrial robot and service robot.
With the intensified aging of population, rising labor costs and the increasing number of physical disabilities, service robot will play an important role in resolving the urgent social problems.
China will focus on R&D of the next generation intelligent robot in 2016-2020, according to a person familiar with the draft plan. In the coming 30 years, China will be the largest market of robot and intelligent equipment industry.
By 2020, the number of robots in China will exceed 400,000, estimated by Luo Jun, secretary of the International Robotics and Intelligent Equipment Industry Alliance.
