A local official newspaper has confirmed that Zhabei district and Jing'an district of Shanghai will merge into one.
An Lusheng, head of Zhabei district-level government, said in an earlier speech that a key aspect of work in the fourth quarter for the local government is to ensure a stable and orderly merger between Zhabei and Jing'an, the Zhabei Newspaper reported.
The combined new district, reportedly to be named Jing'an, will cover an area of 37.37 square kilometers with a population of 1 million.
