At 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average inched down 34. 80 points, or 0.17 percent, from Tuesday to 20,294.09. On the contrary, the broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange edged up 4.05 points, or 0.25 percent, to 1,633.51.
