Chinese shares retreat on Fri. on profit taking

After a sharp surge on Thursday, share prices on China's Shanghai and Shenzhen bourses retreated and closed lower on Friday on profit takings. For the whole day, the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index sank 1.67 percent to end at 3,524.99 points.

The Shenzhen Composite Index went down 0.48 percent to end at 2,233.26 points. The index for small firms plunged 1.33 percent to end at 8,235.21 and the ChiNext Index lost 0.59 percent to end at 2,692.16. Combined turnover of the two bourses expanded to 823 billion yuan from 795.5 billion yuan on the previous trading day.

Stocks of insurance, banking, securities dealers, aviation devices, logistics, environmental protection, coal, transport services, electricity grid, and medical treatment sectors led the losers on Friday, while, the agriculture, mineral products, tourism, paper-making, natural gas, medicines and internet sectors outperformed.

On the stock index futures market, the IF December contract sank 1.45 percent to end at 3,638.0, keeping a discount of 128.59 points to the underlying Hushen 300 Index, which plunged 1.91 percent to end at 3,677.59.

The SSE 50 December contract dived 2.35 percent to end at 2,378.0, keeping a discount of 19.56 points to the underlying SSE 50 Index, which sank 2.60 percent to close at 2,397.56. The CSI November contract decreased 0.63 percent to end at 7,315.8, keeping a discount of 195.87 points to the underlying CSI 500 stock index, which lost 0.78 percent to end at 7,511.67.
