Tokyo shares closed higher Friday morning with market confidence boosted by the Bank of England's decision the previous day to cut interest rates and expand easing.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average ended the morning session up 45.86 points, or 0.28 percent from Thursday at 16,300.75.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 1.01 points, or 0.08 percent, at 1,284. 00. Gainers were led by securities, transport equipment and mining shares.
