Tokyo stocks opened marginally higher Thursday on relief that a statement written by former Federal Bureau of Investigation Director James Comey will reflect his stance before Congress on the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average edged up 18.72 points, or 0.09 percent, from Wednesday to 20,003.34.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 0.65 point, or 0.04 percent, to 1,597.74. Air transportation, insurance and bank-related issues comprised those gained the most in early trade.
