Tokyo stocks opened essentially flat Tuesday as the market mood was hesitant in early trade following unfolding news of a blast and fatalities at a concert in Manchester.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average edged up 4.32 points, or 0.02 percent, from Monday to 19,682.60.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, inched 0.44 point, or 0.03 percent higher, to 1,568.09.

Precision instrument and rubber product-related stocks comprised those that gained the most in the first 15 minutes of trade.
