Tokyo stocks opened higher Tuesday as exports-linked issues got an early boost from the yen retreating against the U.S. dollar.
As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 78.74 points, or 0.39 percent, from Monday to 20,232.09.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 6.54 points, or 0.41 percent, to 1,618.75.
Iron and steel, precision instrument and rubber product-related issues comprised those that gained the most in early trade.
