Tokyo stocks opened higher Monday as investors sought out export-oriented issues lifted by a comparatively weak yen against the U. S. dollar.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 136.54 points, or 0.67 percent, from Friday to 20,432.99.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 9.83 points, or 0.59 percent, to 1,674.44.

Rubber product, pulp and paper, and machinery-linked stocks comprised those that advanced the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
