Tokyo stocks open lower as technology issues lose ground

Tokyo stocks opened lower Wednesday as semiconductor issues losing ground overnight.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 53.28 points, or 0.24 percent, from Tuesday to 22,611.41.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 3.04 points, or 0.18 percent, at 1,695.87.

Pharmaceutical, metal product, and construction-oriented issues comprised those that declined the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
